In light of the upcoming 4th of July holiday, the Green River Fire Department (GRFD) would like to remind residents that fireworks are prohibited within the city limits, and anyone violating Section 12-2 of the Green River Code could face up to a $750.00 fine and up to 6 months in jail.
The GRFD say that the use of fireworks is dangerous and often results in personal injury and property damage. Most reported cases involve children and young teens who sustain burns and injuries to their face and hands, but adults also suffer these injuries.
The current dry conditions make the use of fireworks undoubtedly dangerous this year. Unseasonably warm, dry, windy weather has caused the surrounding hills to be very susceptible to fire spread, and residents need to be aware that even unintended actions can spark a fire that could spread rapidly to surrounding homes and buildings.
The fine for the first offense Use of Fireworks is $225.00 and this will be vigorously enforced by the Green River Police Department. Please remember that any negligent use of fireworks or burning can also result in additional criminal charges being filed and you may be held responsible for any resulting personal injuries or property damage as a result of that negligence.
Fireworks include squib, crackers, fire-crackers, sky rockets, roman candles, sparklers and any other kind of firework.
