James Carroll, 50, of Green River, was sentenced by Federal Court Judge William Downs on April 15, 2011 for possession of child pornography. Carroll received 108 months of imprisonment, to be followed by a life term of supervised release. In addition, Carroll was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment, a $1,000 fine, and $300 restitution. This case was investigated by the Green River Police Department after receiving a tip from a concerned citizen observed a suspicious file on Carroll’s computer. The investigation revealed over 1500 illegal photos on the computer.

Officers were dispatched to 98 Uinta in reference to a stray cat caught in a live trap. The cat was impounded.

Officers responded to a report of suspicious noises in the Shelter Valley area. The source of the noises weren’t identified even after officers searched through the neighborhood.

Animal Control Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of W. Flaming Gorge Way to a reported dog at large. A female Pug was impounded.

Officers investigated a report of a suspicious package delivered to a business on E. 2 S. that was addressed to an unknown individual. The investigation is continued.

Animal Control Officers were dispatched to Barnhart St. to a report of a dog at large. The owner of the dog was able to recapture the dog after it escaped from the owner’s yard before Animal Control Officers arrived on scene.

Paul Mahaffey, 37 of Green River was arrested on outstanding arrest warrant for an unpaid speeding ticket. Mahaffey was contacted after leaving the scene of a reported dispute at the rear of Pamida in Green River. Mahaffey was transported to the Sweetwater County Detention Facility and booked into jail.

Animal Control Officers responded to dog at large calls on Virginia Drive, and two other reports on Colorado Drive.

A citizen of Apache Drive requested extra patrol after someone disconnected windshield wipers on a vehicle parked at a residence.

Officers assisted a citizen on Cumorah Way.

A citizen reported receiving pornographic photographs on a new cell phone. The citizen has been assigned a new cell phone number. The investigation is continued.

David Lowe, 33 of Green River was arrested at his residence on outstanding arrest warrants from Green River Circuit Court. The warrants were for an unpaid fine and failure to appear on a traffic offense. Lowe was transported to the Sweetwater County Detention Facility and booked into jail.

Chad Rutherford, 30 of Green River was arrested for Public Intoxication after officers were dispatched to the area of Bridger Drive and E. Teton for individuals engaged in an argument. Rutherford was transported to the Sweetwater County Detention Facility where he was booked into jail and issued a citation into Green River Municipal Court for the violation.

Officers assisted ambulance personnel on Anvil Drive at a report of a two month old child having breathing difficulty. The child was taken to the emergency room by the child’s parent after being first checked by EMT’s.

Detective Ross still needs to speak with the lady who witnessed the accident at Monroe and E. Teton that occurred on 4/16/11 at between 2100 and 2200 hours. This accident involved an 11 year old boy and a gray GMC pickup. Detective Ross can be reached at 872-0555.
