On March 4th, 2014 at about 0940 hours a student at Green River High School approached the School Resource Officer and expressed concern regarding statements another student had made to them.

The reporting student stated that the student of concern described how the gun would be brought into the school and named the one specific student that was the intended victim. The School Resource Officer notified the School Administration and located the student of concern, searched their locker and bags but found no gun. The student’s parent was contacted and responded to the High School.

Other students were interviewed regarding statements made by the student of concern and they confirmed hearing the student making statements that a gun had been brought to school and /or that the student of concern was going to bring a gun to school. The student of concern and their parent were cooperative with the School Resource Officer and the School Administration in answering questions and providing information.

Due to the student’s timely notification to the School Resource Officer and the Green River High School Administration, the cooperation of other witnessing students, the student of concern and their parent, the initial “threat” of violence was quickly stopped.
It was determined that the one “student of concern” was acting alone and was the only student involved in making the threats.

Had there been any additional concerns of safety for students, faculty, parents, or the public, Law Enforcement and School District Administrators would have made appropriate notifications.

The Green River Police Department is grateful for the students who come forward with their concerns and for the close working relationship the Police Department has with the Sweetwater County School District 2 (Green River) which make it possible to conduct quick, thorough investigations into these types of threats.
