A local resident reported they advertised selling a vehicle on a web site. They were contacted by someone who said they were interested in purchasing the vehicle. The reporting person said they soon received an email from someone they thought was associated with PayPal for the transfer of the funds. The email instructed the seller to send $1200 dollars via Western Union. After sending that amount they received a subsequent email instructing them to wire $1500 dollars via Western Union. The reporting party did so, again believing that was part of the process of selling the vehicle over the Internet and using PayPal. After sending the $1500 dollars they received a third email stating they had won $5000 dollars and needed to send $3000 dollars to secure the $5000 dollars in winning. At that time the seller realized this as a scam and did not send the money. The seller sent $2700 dollars via Western Union that cannot be recovered. The Green River Police Department reminds citizens that sending money via Western Union to anyone they do not know is not a good idea.

Officers completed numerous vin checks.
